Corfu - an island that was once a favorite vacation spot of the British

We visited the island of Corfu. We decided to take a ticket to the sanatorium-hotel, so that food tickets, a playground, a pool, sun loungers. We rarely do that. They used to say that everything is in Greece. What does it mean I never understood. Greece is a poor country, little is left of good in this Greece, if it was, at least, it seemed to me. However, Corfu is not exactly Greece - so the British semi-colony - until recently, the British favorite vacation spot, an island near Albania. The British did not particularly stand on ceremony with the locals - they played cricket in the central square of the capital, built palaces and resorts - the burden of a white man.

The northwestern part of the island where our hotel was located is simply surrounded by greenery: bushes, trees, flowers, nature is magnificent, maybe that's why the British liked this place?

The beach near the hotel, on the one hand sand, on the other pebbles - to choose from. Walking around the neighborhood, we found another wild beach near the hotel, for me it was preferable.

The hotel is 400 meters higher. For some reason it was completely empty.

And this is already an abandoned place, but the name is good) Space Disco.

Scenery.

Wild beach.

An ideal place for meditation or for lovers of sunbathing in what the mother gave birth.

A sharp change in weather. Thunderstorm, rain, but after half an hour the sun is already shining.

Nice house with a flat roof, I like these - nothing more.

Fig tree Figs - I didn’t eat anything tastier, ripe sweet, no comparison with what is sold here, however, this is typical for all southern fruits - it is economically unprofitable to mass produce them ripe.

Liapades is a village not far from our location. I walked around a bunch of villages around. Colorful in their raggedness, under the southern sun.

Many houses with boarded up windows. Something is completely abandoned.

Local resident.

And the inhabitants. A cheerful and sociable man said that for thirty years he worked as a taxi driver in Toronto, saved up a little, came home to mess around, and there isn’t much work, but he’s happy with his life.

There are many churches in the villages, but, as I understand it, there are few parishioners. The priest comes to services from Kerkyra. Went to Sunday service. There were mainly ours from the hotel, there are few Greeks - there are many churches. Christianity is still the southern religion - palm trees, sandals, myrtle, fig tree. It is unclear how, with all this resort paraphernalia, it supplanted the harsh northern gods.

The churches are ancient and stylish.

Different architectural solutions.

Loved wandering around the olive groves.

Kerkyra is the capital. A small town in the Mediterranean style. There are British colonial buildings.

Typical courtyard.
