Stars on the Roof of the World

Unreal beauty of the starry sky far from civilization. That is why we go on long journeys.

Sometimes stars in the sky are not visible because of the "spurious" illumination of large cities. Sometimes just because of the gloomy weather.

Sometimes the bright light of the moon interferes.

But when we climbed the highlands of the Pamirs, almost every night we watched such beauty here.

Mid-August was approaching and the peak of the meteor shower called Perseids.

We simply set up chairs on the street, made ourselves comfortable and enjoyed a magnificent sight - every few minutes stars fell from the sky.

A quarter of the population of our planet has never seen the Milky Way due to the fact that it simply lives in large cities, whose light makes it difficult to discern even bright constellations.

And far from civilization, at an altitude of 4000 meters, the lack of oxygen is compensated by an incredibly starry sky. And we saw all this beauty with our own eyes.

Only we, the mountains, the camper and the whole universe above our heads.

And shooting stars.

And this, most likely, is a reflection of the communication satellite of the Iridium system.

The sight was incredible.

Some meteors were so bright that during a fall for a split second they even lit the earth. In the complete darkness that surrounded us, it was not so difficult to do this.

Judging by the orange clouds, moonrise began.

But even in bright moonlight, some meteors could be seen.

Next night. It gets dark very quickly in the mountains, and we did not always have time to camp. Fortunately, there are practically no people or houses in the mountains, and in order to find a place to spend the night, it was often enough just to drive a couple of hundred meters from the road.

Well, with the onset of darkness, real magic began. Sometimes meteors fell in entire companies, as in this frame.

And sometimes one by one, but very large.

And very bright.

With the advent of the bright moon, the Milky Way disappeared before our eyes.

The purest wild beach of the huge lake Yashilkul. Light as day. Not a single soul except us. And a lone meteor caught in the frame.

Well, after any, even the darkest and longest night, dawn always comes.
