British 77 years living without light, Internet and television in a house with a thatched roof

A small radio, several color photographs and a number of books on a shelf are the only signs that the British Margaret Gallagher lives in the modern world. She is 77 years old, and all her life she lived in a small house with a thatched roof, where there was never water and electricity. With all this, Margaret feels very happy.

This small three-room house is located in Northern Ireland, away from all towns.

Margaret boils water for tea directly over an open fire. All she needs is good health in order to live a long life in this idyllic place.

The British loves flowers very much, she has a whole garden near her house. For some time, she helped on a farm that once belonged to her family, and for 17 years she took care of her father bedridden.

Margaret has never been married, but she is happy with this lifestyle and compares herself to hermits.

Peat for melting the stove in the house. Fire is the only way to keep warm inside.

A woman likes to spend evenings reading. The Gallagher family has lived in this house since the end of the 19th century: they bought it from distant relatives who emigrated to the USA in 1887.
