Before the civil war broke out in Syria, Mohammed Alaa Al Jalil lived in eastern Aleppo and worked as an electrician. When the situation worsened in the country, he did not leave the city, but went to work as an ambulance driver. During shifts, he drove doctors, helped the sick and wounded, and on weekends he fed animals left home. Thousands of people fled from Aleppo, and many of the once beloved pets turned out to be on the street. In particular, Mohammed became attached to cats. He regularly brought them food, buying it for the driver’s salary.

The constant delivery of food for street cats made Mohammed a real celebrity. At first, local media began to write about him, and then foreign ones. So he got like-minded people who created a group on social networks and collected donations for a feline shelter. Thanks to this, Mohammed bought a small piece of land near his house, where about a hundred cats settled. He picked up little kittens on the ruined streets and brought them to him, treated them, and spent time with them. Later, a doctor appeared in the shelter, who shares the views of Al Jalil. It is amazing that such a nightmare as war causes cruelty and absolute indifference to everything in some people, while it helps others to open up, to become more kind and human.
