North Korean ski resort for which Kim Jong-un spent millions

North Korea has a policy of retreat and repression against its own citizens. Insider shots of this state are very rare, and the news talks about people living in fear and poverty. However, even this topic cannot be represented exclusively in black and white.

For example, this winter several media published photos of one of the two ski resorts in the country called Masikryong Ski Resort. It should be noted that with tickets for the ski lift costing $ 40, the vast majority of North Koreans cannot even dream of a vacation here. And yet there are people here. Let's see what the rest of the minion of fate looks like in the fashionable ski resort of the DPRK.

The first of two existing ski resorts in North Korea was the Masikryong Ski Resort, which opened on December 31, 2013.

It took 10 months to build the entire complex. The soldiers of the Korean People’s Army erected it, although it is not clear how the country paid for this work.

The resort includes nine different slopes, an ice rink, a ski school and a winter park for children.

The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, ordered the construction of the complex back in 2011.

The UN Security Council prohibits the DPRK to import luxury goods, including ski equipment. The government managed to do all this by finding a loophole.

South Korea sent a group of its athletes to Masikryong for a joint training program before the 2018 Olympics.

The resort accepts a lot of different currencies - American dollars, Chinese yuan, Japanese yen, euro and North Korean won.

An entrance ticket to the complex worth $ 40 is about a monthly salary in North Korea and is not available to most locals.

For a foreign tourist, a day of skiing here will cost about $ 100.

The media that published these pictures in the winter say that in 2017 two foreign documentary filmmakers visited the resort and noted the conspicuous desert of this place.
