The "pink" pyramid - the first real pyramid of Egypt

The "pink" pyramid is not as widely known as the pyramids in Giza, but meanwhile it is no less magnificent, while its height is even greater than that of the pyramid of Mikerin, one of the three pyramids near Cairo.

The "pink" pyramid is located in the Dakhshur region, the place where the necropolis of Egyptian pharaohs and noble representatives of Egyptian society are located. It is interesting in that the first of the tombs of the Egyptian pharaohs has a classic pyramid shape and looks like the pyramids in Giza, but is older than them. Of course, the pyramids were erected earlier, but all of them, although they are magnificent structures of antiquity, are in reality far from the shape of a regular isosceles pyramid.

The "pink", or, as it is also called, the Northern Pyramid, has a height of 104 meters and is the third in this indicator after the Cheops pyramid and the Chefren pyramid in Giza. The size of the base of the building is 220 meters. The pyramid is so called because of the blocks of pink limestone, which during sunset acquire a corresponding shade. Although in antiquity it, like the great pyramids, was white, as it had a white limestone lining.

According to Egyptologists, this pyramid was built by order of Pharaoh Snofru, the founder of the IV dynasty, who ruled in the XVI-XVII centuries BC. Although exact evidence that this was the tomb of Snofru was still not found: there are only inscriptions of the name of the pharaoh inside the pyramid, and the sarcophagus itself was never found. But his name is also found in several other pyramids (in Meidum and Sale), so the question of the ownership of this tomb remains open.

The structure looks very similar to the pyramid of the son and heir of Snofru - Cheops, who, as you know, built for himself the highest tomb of all the pharaohs of Egypt. But the "Pink" pyramid has an angle of inclination of the faces of about 43 degrees, while the pyramids in Giza are built using a slightly different technology, and the angle of inclination of their faces is already about 52 degrees. The entrance to the pyramid is located on the north side. An inclined corridor leads into three chambers, which are located close to each other. A special path leads to the entrance, along which tourists can get inside the "Pink" pyramid.

Pharaoh Snofru, by whose order the “Pink” pyramid was built, went down in the history of Ancient Egypt as a wise and noble ruler who did a lot for his country. During his reign, Egypt strengthened its borders after several successful military campaigns to the south. To his descendants, the subsequent pharaohs of the IV dynasty, or, as it is also called, the dynasty of the Pyramid Builders, he left a rich and powerful state. In addition to a strong country, the heirs of Snofru received the technology of building grandiose pyramids, which have no equal on our planet.
