Fantastic Salina Turda: how the old salt mine was turned into a tourist paradise

The Salina Turda salt mine is an incredible underground world with exciting attractions, sports fields, souvenir shops, its own lake, which you can ride on a boat, and even a ferris wheel. Located in Romania, near the city of Turda, it is one of the most unusual sights of the world, underground. You can endlessly admire the bizarre salt patterns, stroll along the huge Salina Turda and not even notice how the day went. After all, not a single ray of sunlight falls here, and this whole underground attraction is illuminated by millions of lamps, which makes it look like a fairy tale.

An elevator leads deep into the cave, but you can take a walk along the stairs, enjoying the unusual walls and breathing in the healing salt air. Salina Turda is not only an amusement park and sports entertainment. It is also an underground museum, which presents mineralogical finds and exhibits related to salt mining in Transylvania.

At the upper level of the salt mine are sports and entertainment areas. There is a Ferris wheel, souvenir shops, walking areas and cozy gazebos with original lighting. For sports, there are bowling alleys, mini-golf, table tennis, billiards and football.

The lower level of the mine is flooded, but a descent is also equipped there. Downstairs you can rent a rowing boat and enjoy the amazing boat trip inside the salt grotto.

The temperature inside this unusual attraction is quite consistent with its location: underground all year round about +10 - +13 degrees Celsius. Therefore, if you plan to visit this attraction, you need to take care of warm clothing. There is something to see, and it will be annoying if you have to rise to the surface just because you have chilled. Despite the fact that the Salina Turda salt mine is a unique tourist attraction, it is little known to the general public, and most travelers are not even aware of its existence. Therefore, there are no queues in parking lots and crowds at the box office, and the entrance ticket costs only 4.5 euros. To get to Turda you need to focus on the large city of Cluj.
